i have kosei 15x7 (so, narrower rim - a little) - they are 38mm, not 40mm
i have camber plates (so the strut towers are inwards 3/4" approx)
i have coil overs, and the ride height is more than 1" lower than stock
on the back, i have lower ctl arms, and running 1 deg neg only
the toughest clearance is front inner sidewall to strut body, in that case i have 1/4" (my little finger will fit in that gap, squeezed a bit)
the 2nd toughest clearance is rear outer shoulder to fender lining, and in that case it's damned close, and with enough weight i could get it rubbing
they have the same external dimensions as a Hoosier 205/50-15, but are slightly narrower at their widest point on the sidewall
they are slightly smaller in diameter, and .4" wider at the tread than the 205/50-15 Falken Azenis, same sidewall width
i think my mods made the clearances tougher (rear track increase, and less ride height all around)
but your results may vary, and i sure understand it's a $500 roll of the dice

As far as 15's go, I have the Hankook Z212's 225/45/15's mounted on 15x8's up front with no issue. The wheels were 30mm offset. I could see potentially having rubbage in the rear on the trailing arm with Hooiser A6 225/45/15 since its so wide but a simple spacer would eliminate any issue. I'd guess you will be OK with the Hankook's, worst case, you'd need a very small spacer.

Thanks guys!!
I think I'm going to go ahead and buy them. The 15's will be for track days (and maybe cold winter autocross events where race tires are worthless) and the 17's will be my 3-season daily driver wheels and tires. I've always wanted a set of TE37's! (the Rota's I'm getting used with the tires for a great deal)

UPDATE:
I mounted up the 15 x 7.5 (+40 offset) Rota Slipstreams, with the Hankook 225/45-15's. They just barely rub exactly where you guys said they would. On the front they touch the shock body and on the rear they're very close to the rear sway bar. I added some 2.5mm spacers that I had and everything has been fine. 5mm spacers would probably be even better but I didn't have any.
The tires are awesome! I heard that they aren't as good as the Falkens, but I'm wondering if the 225/45 size (extra width) makes up for the compound not being quite as good as the Falkens. They almost feel as good as the 215/40-16 V710's! I've got some MaxQData numbers from the V710's, I'm going to do some testing today with the MaxQ to see how close my "butt-o-meter" really is.
