Fixed seat back legal in STX???
Hey everyone,
Someone local to me is selling their Sparco Evo 3 fixed-back seat. I want to buy it and install it for STX use, but I believe I read in the rules you must have an adjustable-back seat.....HOWEVER,
I read in this month's Grassroots Motorsports they were prepping a Nissan SE-R for STX use and indeed installed a fixed-back seat.....so, if this were illegal, why would GRM 'advertise' they were doing this? Any clarification on this?
Thanks,
John

Yup, fixed back seats that weigh 15 lbs or more are legal in STS, STS2, STX, and STU. If you're looking to save weight though, keep in mind that some of the manufacturers seat brackets and sliders weigh as much as 10 lbs. In my last car I made my own fixed brackets that weighed about a pound, 8-9 lbs lighter than the Corbeau brackets that came with the seat.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
I'm 6'-1" 190lbs so possibly the EVO 3 is too large for me....and the car. I'll have to do more checking into it.
not to change the purpose of the thread, but....
Mineon, which Corbeaus do you have and how do you like them? Their very low price dissuaded me initially as possibly being lesser quality. Any thoughts?

I had the Corbeau Forzas. I'm 6'1" and 245 lbs, and at that size/weight, they were a very tight fit, but I did fit, as did my co-driver, who is around 5'9" and 175 lbs. I did lose 30 lbs a couple of years ago, and the fit was really good then.
The Forzas won't last as long for daily use as the entry level seats from Momo or Sparco would, but you'll pay twice as much for them. I had my Corbeaus for 3-4 years and they still looked very good when I sold them, but I didn't use them every day, I often swapped in the stock seats for daily use or trips and saved the race seats for race use on the weekends. When I had the Corbeaus in my Neon, it only took 10-15 minutes to swap seats.
