M7 thermostat legal?

Hey everyone,

I have the motor apart right now and I want to install M7's thermostat that keeps the motor a little cooler. Will this keep me legal in STX?

Anyone have a quick answer to this so I can go ahead and buy this w/o searching through the rulebook right now?

Good point. But I want to keep on the legal end of things just in case. I wouldn't want to run it the whole time then later find out its not legal and feel like I won unfairly.

Not sure what the laws are in your area, but do not know why it would be illegal. If anyone knows this if it is, this would be something I would like to know as well. Cant see why allowing the motor to run cooler would be illegal. i.e. allowing the coolant to run longer in the engine.

He doesn't really mean "legal" he means allowed in the rules for the racing event he wants to run in.

I found nothing in the STX rules regarding changing the thermostat.
There is a rule allowing it in the Stock classes (13.10.I). Strict
interpretation of the rules would indicate that because it does not
say it is allowed in STX, that it is therefore not allowed. You
should probably go to the SCCA site and either research it or ask.

I know that in the SCCA Solo II rules they clearly say, if it doesn't say that it is legal than it isn't. That would be my guide line. Heck, you can't even change the shift **** under their rules.

Where are you from? Does it get cold where you are ?

I would NOT install it IF you live in a COLD climate ... I am in the Know

Mine had to be removed, throwing SES lights -Coolant error in the cold, many dealer visits, till it was replaced, under warranty

All the stock class allowances are allowed in ST, with the exception of the tires. ST builds on the stock class rule set, making additional allowances. So, if the thermostat is legal in stock it is legal in ST, unless specifically not allowed.
