STX or D-stock for 2013?

Hi all,

This is my first year autocrossing my R56 in d-stock. I have been having a blast with it and feel like I've made some progression as a driver over the last couple of months however I'm sure I still have a long way to go.

I've been contemplating making some modifications to the car over this off season, (CAI, coilovers, etc.) which I know would bump me out of stock and into STX. Those of you in STX, what were your reasons for going into that class as opposed to stock? Are you happy with the competitiveness of the car in this class? I'm not looking to be nationally competitive at this point. I just want to continue to progress as a driver and have some fun doing some modifications to my car.

Oh, another thing. I do several track days per year. My thoughts were that prepping the car for STX would make it more fun on the track.

I'd encourage you to go to STX for just the reasons you stated.

I agree that the MCS is not likely to win any NT events, but at the Regional level it's close enough to make the driver the deciding factor.

I ran this year against the 330 ci and the RX8, the latter well driven by Jeff Anderson who won the Northeast National Tour race with it.

On my best day I'm within a few tenths, and normally I'm back .5 or more.

But over the last few years the car has won a few Regional class championships, taken one top PAX (in the rain), a 4th at the Finger Lakes a couple of years ago and a close 5th up here in New England at this year's tour.

On the street though the car is an absolute rapier, so if you don't mind the firmness of an STX setup you may be rewarded with a car that will pull 1.1+ lateral G's on any decent surface wearing street tires.

That happens to be what I'm in to, so the trade-offs are worth it to me.

Cheers,

Charlie

Thanks for the information guys. Looks like STX at the national level might be a tough nut to crack but to be honest that's not much of a concern to me at this point as I need to work on developing my skills as a driver locally. I would suspect next year I'll also be attending some regional events here in the midwest. Who knows you may see me at one of your own events sometime. This bug has hit me pretty hard. Now the only question is where to start. The only mod I've done to my car from a performance perspective is an Hotchkiss rear sway bar and '17 Michelin Sport Pilot tires.
