We just purchased a Mini Cooper S which we are using mainly for the use of autocross, and of course, on a daily basis for pleasurable driving. Were planning on competing in STX. What mods do you guys recommend for the Cooper S

H-Sport competition package

SSR competition rims 16X7.5

Falken Azenis 215/45/16 tires

Shock? Or should we just go with some coilovers?

Intake?

Lightweight battery.

Scroth 4 point racing harness

Any other mods needed to be competitive? Money is no object, I only live once, so it might as well be living fast!!!!!

We have a Phase 1, 2 and 3 evolution schools behind us so were ready to rock in the new mini!!!

Moved to the STX forum so those that have competed in this class can chime in. For starters be sure to check out the STX FAQ as it will answer a lot of the questions you may have regarding what is allowable and what isn't.

One thing I would keep in mind is that many of the mods allowed in the class can create compromises for you on the street. In my experience (I built my MCS for STX last year and ran a number of the Pros, all our regional events (12-14), and spent more than 10 days in Topeka for the Pro Finale and Nationals), the compromises generally took the fun out of the car for street use. Lowered right height (scrapping), stiff suspension, etc. have me working to return the car back to a more stock form. Unfortunately now I can't run it in G Stock as I have a LSD in the car. If I were to do it again I would likely run the car in G Stock. This is the path that Brian Garfield has taken this year after running STX last year.

Regardless go have some fun in the car...you'll have a great time!

Taking Mark's point about drivability into consideration,

lightweight wheels - Yes (Maybe even 15 X 7.5 SSR Comps)
Falken Azenis - Yes
Quaife Limited Slip Differential - If you are serious about STX, this is a must
The HSport Competition Package is fine (After you get used to it, then maybe try Koni's)

Optional:
Lightweight battery
Header
Exhaust
Harness or try the CG Lock
New seat

if you are just going to run locally, I would do the following.

Springs (H sport)
Adjustable Rear Swaybar (I have RDR)
Better tires (Azenis, Kumho MX if available in your size)

At a minimum.

I am 2-0 this year in STX in Central Carolina Region with the H sport springs, RDR rear bar, and 225/45-17 Yoko AVS ES100s on Prodrive P1s. I won't win any big events, but the car is certainly not bad to drive every day (although I get a bit of rubbing on the fender liners when I have a couple passengers in the car)

The biggest effect will be from the Limited Slip, though, and I wish I had one.

Travis
