Door lock problems

Mods, could this sticky like the Engine Bay Fires post?

There seem to be quite a few thread of people with this problem. What year is your MINI and approx. mileage at time of failure. Maybe if there are enough of us we can forward it to MINIUSA?

03' MC Build date: 3/03

This is the second time today I have seen a thread start in the middle of something. What is going on????

There seem to be a rather decent amount of threads on NAM refering to people having their locking mechinisims in one of their doors dieing at a premature age. I'm trying to gauge year/build date/model/milage, anything that might be able to link it together to send over to MINIUSA for them to say "Ok, thanks, bye."

Drivers side 03' MCS Build date: 7/03, mileage just over 50K and out of warranty.

Dinger28 05-02-2007 01:26 PM

Had the pass side go out at about 25k and today my drivers side went out as well at 53k. Waiting for the dealer to call me back to see how much this crap is going to cost.

do you have the P/N's by any chance?

DVLMINI 06-08-2007 10:31 AM

This is frickin unnerving. You mean that were I to go to the dealer, who's labor rate is $120/hr. That to fix my door lock (which I view as a defect) would cost $340 at 2 hours?

A followup:
My problem turned to to be mechanical. The cable jacket near the lock had come free from it's anchor point. I just snapped it back in place. Not an easy thing to do because of the hidden location. I sure wish it had a more positive method to keep it where it belongs.

03' MCS - Drivers side - 54k miles.

I also vote for a sticky.....I think this is an issue that NEEDS to be addressed to MINI USA, and hopefully with a huge thread of people reporting they are having problems, they will do something about it, maybe even perhaps recall it. I for one know it has been a rather pain in the ass because my drivers side went out....so EVERY TIME I get in/out of my MINI I have to manually unlock/lock it by hand. NOT fun...

for the people who've repaired it themselves: can any mechanically inclined person do this or does it require special tools?

05 MCS 5K, drivers side after unintentionally leaving the window cracked at MOTD overnight in the rain. Door would unlock via toggle or handle, but handle would not open the door.

The thing that turned the repair from impossible to trivial for me was a mirror with a telescoping handle. I stuck a flashlight in the lower part of the door pointing upwards, and held the mirror in place behind the door mechanism. That made it really easy to see what was going on with the cable. In my case, the piece of plastic attached to the cable had slipped out of the latch mechanism. I snapped it back into place, and the door has been perfect ever since.
