Today, I just was .5 miles from home, and I noticed I could not get to 2nd or lower. So I drove home in 3rd gear. What might have happened.? I noticed something under the battery looked like the linkage was disconnected. Do I have to remove the battery to fix this?

Early coopers had a problem with this linkage. I thought (?) it was fixed as a recall notice. It was really early in the production so I'm surprised to be hearing of it this late.
I recall hearing that you could snap the linkage back together to allow you to get to a dealer to have fixed. (It's like a ball & socket joint.) My memory on the subject is fuzzy but your dealer will be familiar with the problem. HTH, Jeff |
Thanks, that was good advise.
I re-inserted the linkage, and now to take it downtown. |
