What's This Connector For?

This connector is located on the left side (passanger side) of the engine compartment. What's it for?

Shouldn't it be better protected?

I was wondering about that too, seems like it is rather exposed to the elements, doesn't it? I would have expected something with a little better moisture protection. If it's just a grounding strip then shorts to ground are not a concern, but floating grounds if a wire corrodes and snaps off is a very real concern, especially with the wire guage being as thin as it is.

I tape a plastic bag over it when washing the engine bay to prevent such happenings, but other than that I'm not too worried...but that's just me.

My car has a different thing there. I thought it was part of the headlight leveling system.
