car doesn't roll!
 

you know when you are on a slight slope your car rolls forward or backwards. My MCS doesn't seem to roll when it should. where other cars would have to have there brakes on, i can just sit there with out any brake pressure. i don't know if this is because the axle grease or something else, anyone else notice this?

Yeah, definitely the axle grease.

More than likely you have a caliper that is dragging on the car. Check the rears first, they seem to have more instances of this than the fronts.

haha, no. i am just talking about a slope just steep enough to make most cars roll, but not my mini.
I'll check the calipers, see if anything is dragging, but i recall my car being this way sense new, i didn't have to have break pressure in places where my previous car would roll and would need to brake, but i never thought much of it till the other day when i was at a stop light and the guy in front of me had his breaks on and when the light turned green he rolled back slightly when he slowly put it in gear, i didn't have to have my breaks on and was on the same slight slope.

Does one wheel get dirty quicker than the others? Or jack it and try spinning each wheel by hand.

MINIs are lighter than other cars, so they need a steeper incline to make them roll. :cool:

haha, yeah i thought that out, weight shouldn't have an effect with this. there must be some friction in the drive train.

Yea i noticed this too, on some very slight slopes where some cars roll mine doesnt. But on any slope more than very slight it does roll

I suspect you've got a rear caliper dragging. If you do the "jack it up and spin the wheel" test, you've got to jack each rear wheel individually under that wheel swing arm and spin. Otherwise you may get a false test because the emergency brake cable will pull slightlty as the wheel drops down and cause the caliper to squeeze the rotor as if you were pulling the e-brake handle.

On the other hand, if it's still under warranty and your dealer is close....well you know the drill.

Regardless, your car should roll easy as pie.

take it for a drive on the highway for a short jaunt then pull over and stop and feel the wheel and see if one wheel is much hotter than the other three...if one wheel has a sticking caliper that wheel willbe much hotter due to friction.....yes?
