Is there any type of engine managment for the mini other than a chip? Will a S-AFC work? Or do you guys use a different tuning method? Im new so excuse my dumb questions im sure youve all covered this.

So I have no idea, would any of the standard race ecus, Autronic, Motec, Tec, etc would work? There's certainy more $$$ involved. Has anyone here ever attempted a Motec M4 install? Seem like it would be perfect for the more serious MINI tuner.

yes motec works great..the m4 doesn't allow for the drive by wire though you would need something like the m800 for al lthe pin outs and such I think....I forget off hand

Thats a nice friggan gain considering AFC's are only a couple hundred bucks. Its hard to buy HP for that cheap especially on our cars.

I know Alta is working on a standalone system which should be cool.

Has anyone ever thought of using a custom harness and an AEM EMS or anything like that? I know my boss uses Haltech's at the shop but the initial wiring with no "plug n play" harness would be a $^&%&^&

There are some things I worry about...

Running the motor should be relatively easy.... BUT
1) What will happen to the ABS system?
2) What will happen to the ATC/DSC system?
3) What will the immobilizer circuit do?

Cars are getting more distributed. In the traction/stability control system, the ECU gets inputs from the ABS sensors, and may cut power as a result of the interventions that are done. I honestly have no clue if the replacement ECUs support any of that stuff. If not, kiss traction control goodbye!

As far as i know the most "Plug n Play" such as AEM let the stock ECU continue to do stuff like that. As far as traction control...I have never used my DSC.

Unless one were to convert to a cable actuated throttle body set-up. Then just about any 5v tps sensor would work to show throttle position to the Motec.

Heres my experience with stand alones. The MOTEC is hard as hell to tune and so is the AEM they both control every bit of your car completely replacing your ECU. In my EVO i used the Turbo XS UTEC because it was a plug in and only took affect after 25% throttle was applied it was a little harder to tune my larger injectors for cold starts but not impossible. Im looking for something like that and the AFC ive seen do some incredible things. I just wish there was a piggyback system not as simple as the AFC and not as full on as the AEM (even though when tuned the AEM does give you alot of power). The MOTEC is just a pain from what ive heard but dont quote me on that its just what i heard.

I found the motec to be quite easy...not having much time using stand alones prior to the learning it....yes it can be time consuming to set up all the initial stuff becaise yes you have to set it ALL up...heh heh...however, one it sees everything it's quite nice....user friendly and very fast....

as for something else to go with or replace the AFC....Justin from Global Motor Werks suggested Emanage...havent' tried it but I know some people who said the LOVE it....

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, take a look at Megasquirt! I'll provide the link because when you google it some not so nice things show up! http://www.megasquirt.info/

While I have no time now, I do know what I'm gonna do with my 75 FIAT 124 Spyder that is slowly rusting into a pile of dust. The friggin carb is over $450.... I already have the injectors from the stock S.

This looks so cool!

It seems to work pretty well, my friends '97 neon acr with over 400whp runs it and you can tune fuel and ignition.
