Thar's Water in My Mini!!

Last week, I drove my Mini to Washington, DC to visit my Dad (who's been displaced by Katrina). This is the first long trip in the Mini for some time. While in Washington, I notice that the driver's floor mat is wet. Of course, I didn't want to take time away from Dad to deal with it, so I just let it go. Also, I didn't drive through any rain or puddles or anything.

When I got home Sunday, I took the floor mat up and saw that the floor was wet. So, finally, tonight, I got the time to begin clean up. I blotted up as much moisture as I could with paper towels and then started with the shop vac and hair dryer. After it was pretty well dry, I sprayed lysol on it and let it set and then vacuumed and heated once more.

While doing this, I took a look under the dash and bonnet. My first assumption was the fluid was condensate from the air conditioner. Then, I thought it might be from the windshield washer. But, I can't see any obvious path.

Any advice on where the fluid is coming from?

Thanks!

My guess because this just got fixed on my '05 MCS (Sept '04 build)...the evaporator hose on the a/c. In my situation, the evaporator hose was faulty and was draining the a/c condensation into my car. The way it was resolved...they replaced the evaporator hose, removed all the carpeting to let the car dry out for a couple of days and replaced w/new carpeting because they were afraid it would end up with mold.

Sounds like the A/C drinking in your MINI. I have heard of a few MINIs doing this. But I haven't heard of a fix. Although people who reported it just said it was a drinking and didn't collect much water.

On my way to college i noticed my carpet was wet... drove a little further... it got worse... and then it started to get hot down by my feet... their was a crack in the hose right beside the heater coil which is right behind the pannel beside the accelerator peddle. I had to stop at o'rieleys for a few hours and worked out a bipass for the heater system. Its quite possible that there is a small crack in the heater coil or the tube going to or from it.

Thanks for the advice!

I took it to our local foreign car place, Automotive Workbench. They blew out the drain lines and then checked under the hood. Apparently, the evaporator drain line is loose. So, another trip to Charleston. Oh well.

Thanks again!
