Mini Engine

No one has yet to give me a clear answer on this subject. Is our Engine related to all the other engines Dodge produces. I was told by a mechanic that this engine is basiclly the same as the Neon's engine. Is it, or not at all??? If it is I see more displacment in my Mini 's future.

It's related to the European Neon.

Engine history

built in Curitiba, Brazil by Tritec Motors Ltsa. (named because three countries enabled it's existance - Germany, US and Brazil) run as a 50/50 company with DaimlerChrysler and BMW. (before Mercedes-Benz got hooked up with Chrysler)

The "Pentagon" engine is used in non US editions of Dodge Neon and PT Cruiser. Was designed in Michigan by Chrysler. Has cast iron block, 5 main bearings, and chain-driven single OHC w/ 16 valve cast-aluminum head.

New motors coming for the Mini will be made by Peugeot.

Madhatter said it well... The engine is very refined and reliable. It is proven to hold up well under heavy use conditions...., it likes mods!
The SC version has forged crank, rods, oil cooled pistons and many more items to keep it reliable.
I drove a neon in the past, rental car... the refinement and performance of the mini is light years ahead...
It lives up to the BMW refinement..

It is and it isn't. See this link.

Its not the same block as a US Neon or PT. So no 2000cc+ displacement.

I'll try and take a closer look and maybe measure the outside dimensions of my Neon engine and tranny, but it looks like the Neon angine/trans assembly would be too long to fit in the Mini, and the Mini's transmission won't bolt up to the Neon engine. From the outside they look similar and use some parts that appear to be almost identical (intake and exhaust manifolds, coilpack), but from everything I've heard, it would require a lot of work to drop a 2.0 or 2.4 Dodge engine in a Mini.

Did the search and came up with 500 possible posts. What was the name of the post? Thanks.
