v42.1 flash and car won't start
I had my mini in for service and they upgraded the software to 42.1. I have an Alta CAI, 15% pully, and a Unichip. The dealer had it running fine, but when they tried to restart it, it wouldn't turn over. They said they think the Unichip may be conflicting with the new software. Actually, the called the Unichip and "after market part" and thought it was a car alarm (not a real confidence builder on their knowledge or skills!).
Anybody have any ideas as to whether the Unichip would conflict with the new version upgrade? Thanks for any help. |
I thought the Unichip design made for easy removal back to stock - just remove it and if the car still does not start, that issue is eliminated and the dealership needs to find the true problem.
But if the car starts without Unichip and not with it, then you know where to look for a solution ... |
Tony over at Unichip claims that it does not affect the factory's idle settings.
As above, if i were you, I would just remove it from the car and see if she starts up. |
Well, it runs without the Unichip, and the dealer says they can't reinstall the previous version. Looks like I'm stuck with a useless unichip.
Can the Unichip be reprogrammed? Thanks for any help. |
I suggest talking to Tony over at Unichip or get suggestions from Randy at
WebbMotorSports. |
Well, the car will actually start once I re-install the Unichip, but then dies after about 2 miles and won't restart. It cranks, but doesn't turn over. Removing it lets it start again immediately. I sent emails to both Randy Webb and Unichip, so I'll see if they have any suggestions.
Anybody heard of this type of scenario - runs for a bit and then dies (remember, v42 was recently installed). Thanks. |
I'm also curious, I just installed a Unichip and have a service coming up in a couple thousand. Does the dealer automatically install the V42? Can I decline any changes?
|
They told me they upgrade the version automatically. They said that they will not upgrade the version if the so customer requests. Good luck.
|
Thanks and I hope you get sorted. Dan

WARNING: If there is an recall for an emissions issue (like there was ?last year?) then you cannot refuse the upgrade. Not sure if that is the case for the current version or not - with the SES light issue on auto MCS, it is likely to be a mandatory upgrade for them if not for all MCS.
