2006 MCS trunk latch won't lock
Good Morning, All. I love my 2006 Mini Cooper S - only 69,000 miles on her. I "baby" her! Does anyone have a remedy for sticking trunk latch that won't open or close for trunk ring to close and lock? Would WD-40 sprayed into latch work? Many Thanks! Abbey's Mom

Hi, This is Abbey's Mom and I fixed the latch problem using WD-40 and a screwdriver. Her trunk is tight as a drum - latched and locked! The only problem I'm seeing now is that light on dash indicating bonnet and trunk still open. Hm.. Thots?

The light dash for the trunk is not linked to the trunk being actually latched.
Instead there are some sensors (I don't know which kind and where) that detects when the trunk is closed or not. If the gap is too large, it's detected as opened. This can happen when the hatch is misaligned. To get started look on either side : there are some rubber stoppers. Those can be turned in and out to adjust them. See if you can use that to align the hatch closed position so that the car register it as closed. |
Thank You! My son was able to pulll off the plastic panel where latch was and work with the white pin with spring. All Good Now! Light off in dash!
