Drivers Seat Won't return to Position After Tilting Seat Forward
Hey everyone!
I picked up an '06 MCS about a year ago after missing my first R53 so much, and I'm starting to go through and fix the very minor issues that I have with the car (other than the clutch, but that's a story for another thread). One issue that I'm having trouble finding a solution for is that on the drivers side seat, after I tilt the seat forward, it doesn't return to the original position, which starts to become annoying when you have to readjust your seat every time you let someone in or out of the back of the car. Passenger side works fine. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this without resorting to forking over for a new seat rail set? |
Which part doesn’t return to the original position, the seat back, the slider, or both?

Just the slide. The seat back goes back to where it was supposed to without any trouble

That's not the problem I am having. The seat back functions fine. It's just that when you move the seat back from the tilted forward position, the seat base does not stop where I had it set using the adjustment handle under the seat. The second that the seat back is moved back into my driving position, that's when the base locks in place, but that can be anywhere along the seat rail travel.

I possibly have the same issue. If I don’t use a two step process to slide the seat back it locks into the wrong place. I have to make sure the back stays folded by pushing down on it while sliding the seat back at the same time. After it stops in the original position I can unfold the back and everything is where it should be. The description sounds worse than the actual procedure as it’s become second nature to do.
I think the seat back release cable might need adjusting so the back will stay folded without having to hold it but I don’t want to take out the seats to figure it out. |
