What's the best way to smoke test an N18?
Hi everyone, what is the best port/intake to smoke test an N18 engine? I'm chasing down a vacuum leak . . .
Thanks! 2012 MCS N18 R56 125K miles/201K km |
I know this is going to sound pretty backwoods, but...
I don't have a smoke machine, so I took a latex glove and stretched it over the air intake hose. I cut a fingertip off and then blew the smoke from a Swisher Sweet into the hole. I don't smoke, so that was the cheapest cigar I could find. Now, I know someone is going to poo-poo this method, and I'm sure it won't find every leak, but I found a leak in a hose in just a few minutes that was on the underside of the hose where I wouldn't have seen it. Even if it had been on the top of the hose, I'm not sure I would have been able to see it with the naked eye. It may not be 100% effective, but it could be a cheap first step. |
Thank you very much for the idea. I want to try a cheap cigar and a cheap fluid pump since I don't have a proper smoke machine. I'm all about back woods ideas if they work.
Thanks again. |
