Check Engine Light

Hello everyone,

I am a 09 JCW R56 hatch and just experienced a fun error. Car was driving just fine when all of a sudden lost a little power, yellow check engine light with the warning to catalytic converter message came on. The car was in safe mode and rough so I pulled over to the shoulder and the car died as soon as I stopped. I waited a few minutes and started the car up again in which it was still a little rough. I gave it some gas and it seemed to be fine again. I didn't chance it and turned around to return home and drop the car off.

I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow morning and I will pull codes tonight. Does anyone have any insight to what it may be?

Until you pull and post the codes, could be zillion different things..

What AZdsrt said.

I can add generally engine controllers are pretty good about catching any condition which puts the converter at risk. In the USA the car maker warranties the converters for 8 years, 80K miles. So there is a lot money riding on the engine controller being real cautious when it comes to a converter being damaged.

The biggest risk to a converter is an overly rich mixture, so rich misfires can trigger a warning such as you saw.

But it is still guess work. The codes along with the documentation that details what the codes mean is what is really needed.

It was pulling multiple misfires for the codes. I am replacing all the coils and spark plugs as a fix for this problem.
