Orange Exclamation Point and Car Won't Start
 

2007 Mini Cooper S - Manual Gearbox

When I try to start the car I get a car outline in red with the word service below it,followed by an orange exclamation point. To be honest, I've never really paid attention that closely during the startup cycle, so the service light may have come on each time, but I think I would have noticed the exclamation point. A couple of pieces of information...

• the battery is brand new, about two weeks old. I didn't have a meter with me when the car acted up, but I did try to jump it and the problem persisted.
• everything else works fine - the radio, door locks, windows, a/c, etc...
• I tried unplugging the negative terminal from the battery for 15 minutes.

I'm pretty it's telling you you're overdue for service (ie oil change, brake fluid change, etc). You can scroll thru the service menu to determine what's overdue.

oops, I just saw that you stated the car won't start, Disregard this post..

When you say jump it, do you mean jumper cables or pushing the car and popping the clutch?

Does the car crank did you read the codes?
