It won't shift out of park

Hi, I am having some problem. After I replaced valvebody solenoids, I can't seem to shift out of the park. What would be some possible error in my installation? It's 06 Mini Cooper s with Aisin transmission, Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the shift lever will not leave park or the transmission stays in park despite having moved the gear shift from park?

It won't physically shift out of the park. Did I wrongly installed the gear selector? It was initially like this when I first open the cover.

I am not certain what I am looking at since my MINI is a 5 speed. However, I can give you some general troubleshooting guidelines. With any system with an unknown fault, I always start at one end and work my way to the other. In this case, I would first start by disconnecting the shifter cable from the transmission and see if the shifter will come out of park. If it will, then your issue is inside the transmission or with how the shifter was connected to it. If not, move backwards and disconnect the next thing and the next until it goes into gear. Also see if there is some sort of shift interlock switch on the brake pedal. If there is, disconnect it and temporarily short it with a paperclip. If this works, you have found the culprit. It may be a secondary switch on the brake pedal switch, but I don't know as this is a car with multiplexed wiring and things may not be what I think they should be. You could also tackle it from the shifter side and run 5 or 12 volts to the solenoid and see if that releases it. Since I am inexperienced though, I would let this thread stew overnight and see if anyone else has some better ideas or tells me I am wrong.

The brake safety switch may have died or come unplugged.
