timing chain replacement
is it possible to pre tension the timing chain without a torque wrench? most i have seen dont measure that low. seems to be .6nm. can i just use the actual tensioner and then torque the sprockets? i have a 2009 r56 cooper s. breaking it down now, need some input before reassembly. thanks for any replies

I never used the pre-tensioner.

Just did mine last weekend. That seems to be what I did. You have the camshaft locking tool? I set the tool then took apart. On reassembly, I put the tensioner in then torqued the cam gears and then crankshaft.
Hope this helps and makes sense. |
Same here, just went ahead and torqued down the permanent tensioner. |
I used the pre tensioner but just tightened it hand tight. It's better than the actual tensioner because the real tensioner is a spring type. The pre tensioner keeps the slack out while you torque it |
