2002 MCS NOT have brake pad sensors?

Does a 2002 MCS not have the brake pad sensors? My parts guy said he does not show them for that year, the pads do not currently have sensors and I haven't located the unused plugs anywhere...

Would think Realoem would have a diagram showing they are either there or not.

No brake pad wear sensors on 2002.
No manual boot release on 2002.

More early model year trivia ...

Alloy pedals didn't appear on Cooper S models until December 2002.

The power steering fan shared the same electrical circuit as the radiator fan until January 2003.

This meant that if road debris jammed the power steering fan causing the common fuse to blow, the radiator fan would not operate and the engine would overheat.

Putting the power steering fan on a separate electrical circuit was covered under warranty per Service Bulletin M320104.

The power steering fan was unprotected by a grille until October 2003.

For protection many owners added an aftermarket shroud like the stainless steel one shown below:

Great info Miniac, Thank you!

Ive wondered about the comments when disconnecting your battery to be sure not to close the boot. Now i get it ;)

Think I'll add the power steering shroud to my list.

Do the dealers track completed TSB's by VIN? Would they be able to give me a list of completed TSB's?

There is a recall on the power steering pump which includes a shielded fan ...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ng-recall.html

If the power steering reservoir or supply lines in your car are leaking have them fixed before going to the dealer for the recall. These aren't covered under the recall and the dealer will gouge you to replace them when installing the new pump and fan.

I had the dealer do the title transfer smog check and at the same time check for open recalls. I specifically asked them if the power steering pump had been recalled and they said my VIN was excluded from the recall. Seemed odd... Wonder if mid 2002's had a different pump?

Check for recall yourself ...

Too bad they don't show closed recalls and when they were completed.

MINIAC 06-12-2018 11:08 AM

Perhaps the power steering pump on your MINI was previously replaced.

Solamar 06-12-2018 01:11 PM

The dealer was able to pull up the complete vehicle history (just got off the phone with them) and my 2002 has only had 2 recalls performed. A crankcase ventilation hose and an ECU reprogram. The service adviser said my VIN is just outside the power steering pump recall.

Interesting, if nothing else...

What's the build date of your MINI?

Mine completed production on 5/28/2002 and is eligible for the recall.

I believe the pumps were upgraded sometime in February 2005. If your car was built prior that and is not eligible I would have to assume that pump is not the original.
