dashboard bulbs

dashboard bulbs
I have a 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible S. One day the speedometer and odometer lights and several other lights went out on the dash. I ended up needing a new body module. I had it replaced and now the odometer and speedometer work but apparently the bulbs behind there blew out. I called Mini and they do not have numbers for those bulbs. The guy said you apparently can't order them from Mini. He said Radio Shack would have had that stuff but now there is no Radio Shack. Does anyone have any answers to this?

I can't answer your question directly but I used to work as a parts man in a county school bus shop. There are literally hundreds of bulbs and bases available. If you can get one out and post a pic that will tell us if the base and bulb are "one" or if the bulb is removable from the base.

There are no "bulbs" used in the dashboard. The dashboard lighting comes from tiny LED elements that do not burn out and are not designed to be replaceable (permanently soldered onto electronic circuit boards). The speedometer and tachometer each have about a dozen of these LED elements behind the gauge dials.
Is it the night illumination that isn't working? I mean the interior lighting that should come on when you turn on the headlights — the gauges lighting up and the backlights behind various buttons and controls. Can you describe exactly what lighting you see (or not) when you turn on the headlights? The night illumination is all on a single electrical circuit, and there could be a break or bad connection somewhere. The power and wiring for night illumination originates from an electrical module in back of the speedometer.
That type of bulb is used in a few places in the car, but not the dashboard.

Yep the panels are mostly led and when they fail you either take it all out and replace with a new speedo or tach, or you go through the board and check for any cracks or damage in the cold soldier. I would also check the harness plug.

2007 and 2008 MINI Convertibles are still the Gen 1 cars.
