Froze shifter

Hey! I have a 2004 Mini Cooper non s. Its December in Michigan and everything is frozen. I got in my car this morning and my shifter was frozen solid. I’m curious if I need to add grease or something to the shifter bushings or something to make sure it doesn’t freeze. Any help would be awesome thanks!

Are you sure its not the shifter cables rusted shut or something? Or maybe something internal? Your car has the Midland 5 speed transmission.

Pop the cable ends off the shift tower of the transmission and move the shifter cables one at a time to see if either is seizing, if that doesn't bring any results you'll have a look at the shift lever on the trans, I've seen the bushing seized on them and make the car incredibly difficult to drive.
