Reduced Power Warning

Hey All,

I have recently come to own a 2008 Clubman S with ~117k miles on it. I had a couple of issues (leaky valve cover) that I have fixed and managed to clear and keep clear the CEL.

However, I still have a reduced power light (half filled engine icon) and seemingly no boost. (the care drives _ok_ but about what you would expect with no turbo) I pulled the supply hose on the turbo and everything in there seems to spin freely / not wobble.

I am not receiving any fault codes on my generic OBDII device. (although I have no access to a mini specific one)

Is it possible that a sensor (perhaps o2) is showing something as off and the car is killing the boost? Or is it more likely there isn't any vacuum (because of some leak I can't find) and so no boost?

Does anyone else have any ideas? I don't mind sinking a little money into it to try to get it going right, but at this point I feel like I would be throwing darts at a dartboard to guess, since I don't have any trouble codes to give me a clue as to where to start.

Thanks!

Chris

I encountered a similar situation. I took it to the dealer, since I have an extended warranty. They diagnosed as a faulty vanos solenoid. I believe this cuts your power because the lack of a functioning vanos solenoid keeps the engine timing from adjusting to higher RPM's...although I could be wrong on this point.

Could be a whole bunch of things, but without the code no one can help you.

Yeah, I get that. It's not throwing any of the standard P codes that my (non-mini) reader can pull. So, not sure my options outside of a dealership or acquiring one of the mini/bmw readers.

That said, does anyone have any suggestions on which ones work best? Or maybe which ones work well enough, but don't cost as much as the best?

I bought an OBD wife dongle from Amazon, and the Carly BMW app. I went with that app because it can read codes, OBD readiness, and perform coding.

If you were close by I would offer to help you out. Where are you located?
