Squeak and knock 06 MCS R53

Hello guys this is my first post on this site and was hoping to find an answer or two. So my 06 MCS started all of a sudden making a squeaking and like knocking noise. i first jumped to the idea of valve slap due to a failed tensioner. but then i realized the 1.6 S/C Lisa motor isn't an interference motor. I replaced the tensioner and the noise persisted. i then jumped to the conclusion of the crank pulley, i ordered one and it has yet to come in. Although i believe its the crank pulley, it doesnt seem to wobble or be separating. The symptoms are:

-Knocking
-Squeaking
-Hard Start
-Oil Light (might have a bit much oil tbh)
-Car also has 143,000 Miles on it

thanks guys, any ideas helps!

Those don't sound like related symptoms. How long have you had your Mini for? Are there any other repairs that you've ever performed/know have been performed in the vehicle's history (ie timing chain tensioner, oil pressure sender, supercharger oil service)? With these cars at 150k, it's easier to start with what you haven't done than what you have, lol.

Also, how overfilled is your oil?!? These cars take a maximum of 5 quarts. If by some stroke of accident you have more than 5qts in there, I really recommend you get down there immediately and drain a bit. It's always better to underfill an engine with oil than it is to overfill it.

Moving you the Stock Problems/Issues section.

Can definitely hear an odd noise on the video. Is it throwing any codes? I am thinking either a chain or the supercharger.

no codes, it threw low oil and vacuum leak but i fixed those issues. also car goes into boost and such. guide from the oil pump on the timing cover it slightly cracked but talked to detroit tuned in clawson mi and the owner told me it should be fine to reuse. i have a feeling its the cover though cause sounds like a chain slapping to me.

Taking the valve cover off is not that bad and with a good light should be able to see if the chain is loose. At your mileage might want to put a new gasket on and they only cost $20-$30. But that sound was intermittent, at least to my not to good ears, and I would think the chain would be a constant sound.

By chance did you see the thread about the guy finding a piece of the rocker arm had broken off?

I'm back to the supercharger, or, something is moving into the fan when the engine torques.

Hopefully one of the vendors will get this post. I know that Way Motors has a repair shop in addition to selling parts. ECS and Pelican come to mind as well.

Timing cover bottom guide cracked?

Yeah, I'd agree that you have an issue if something is slapping around in there hard enough to crack the inside cover...

We're talking about the portion highlighted in yellow in this pic, correct?

Might be time to investigate there again. No metal objects sitting in the bottom of your oil pan?

Interesting noise. Can you have a friend rev it up at idle while you poke around in the engine bay? Maybe with a Mechanic's Stethoscope so you can try to pinpoint where it's actually coming from. Yes, how is your oil level and do you see any metal specks in it? If you know there is something that is not in top shape that may relate to the issue, it might be a good idea to replace it. Your CEL may not be one, but did you definitely plugged into your OBDII and check for faults in the system?

I don't understand this practice of installing the tensioner in a retracted state, then cracking it so it pops open...

I pre-popped mine prior to installing, and it went in easily...

look at that slop

No offense intended. If you can see the slop in a video that is pretty bad. It is consistent with the low oil pressure in your first post. I hate to see what the bearing and may be the con rod look like. But hay, the car has 150k.
