Odd SAT radio behaviour

Hi all,

Over the past year I have noticed something odd. I almost exclusively listen to my satellite radio when driving. Therefore, when I start the car it is already playing the satellite radio. Recently though, I have noticed that the radio will be on some unused channel on AM radio when I start the car. If i attempt to move it to satellite radio immediately after this happens, it will sometimes show the SAT radio screen for a few seconds while still playing the AM channel and then go back to the AM screen. Other times it will go straight to the SAT channel that was last used. On other occasions, the car will start and play the SAT radio as it should. I switched to FM radio a while back and then back to SAT and now if the failure occurs, the radio goes to FM instead of SAT when starting, but still not all the time. I had the car at the dealer 2 times to try and fix this. They even replaced the head unit. It still fails.

Has anyone ever seen this?

Are you on original battery? I recently took my '12 into the dealer for a couple of odd electrical problems (not like yours). They said you know you're running on a 4 yr old battery? Well here in Phoenix it's 110 degrees today, eats up batteries fast. Well to make this a short story, told them to go ahead and replace the battery. No more problems..

As a matter of fact I am on my original battery. My commute is only about 10 minutes too so quite often I am not running the engine very long. Once about a year back I was driving and my alarm just went off and kept going off all the way to the dealer and then stopped just before I got there. I bet that was a low battery too. I am trading in on a new JCW (it just entered the paint shop :thumbsup::thumbsup:). Otherwise I would try that. I will put it on the charger before the trade in to make sure it's topped off.
