Teapot whistle.. figured out it's from front windshield seal... What should I do?
 

Posting this for my friend,
She had a serious teapot boiling noise at high-speed driving,
and finally figured out that the tea is boiling from the small gap on the top side of the windshield created from the speed...

She is asking me if there is another option rather than replacing the whole windshield, I told her don't drive at that speed.


Would there be other options? Anybody tried glue/silicon method?
I'm thinking some silicon job can help, but worrying about making the car ghetto... :(

They have flowable silicon sealant for windshields, should work well if applied carefully and not look bad. Certainly worth $10 over a new windshield as a test.

A windshield installer can change the rubber gasket, and add more sealent...
Bet they can remove the current windshield, and reinstall it...might crack, might not... Might be worth trying it if it is kinda new, or going back to the last installer to have them fix it for free....
If it is whistling, water is getting in...and rusting stuff, and a properly secured windshield is an important safety item...
Might be worth the $100 (guess) to have a pro fix it, or even get new glass if the old one is pitted...

When the windshield is replaced, there are plastic parts that prop the windshield up into the right spot so the trim fits right, and the glass is in the right spot. The last installer likely cut the old plastic parts, and did not have new ones, so they just tried to push the glass into the right spot...but it "sagged" or slid as the polythene (usually hot) sealant set...so the top is not glued in right..no seal, and the rubber at the top does not seal...
Having rust around a windshield can wreck a car...a good installer primes it, the puts the bead of hot set polythene down, lays the glass down, then adds the molding...
The glass is a botched install...it settled...breaking the sealant strip...

Is there any evidence that the air is actually getting into the car? It may be that the rubber itself is actually making the noise. If the air isn't getting in, then water wouldn't be either and you wouldn't have quite such concerns about rust.

Time to pour the tea. That's all I've got.

+1 on the windshield and the glass company on the top window seal. I would have a good window installer look at the top seal , was it just replaced ?

There was a trouble bulletin as you can see above, and my friend had a mini technician put some butyl tape under the rubber seal on top of the window.
She've tested at favorite speed,,,,, no more tea boiling. :D

Thanks for the update so it was the top seal just needed tapped down a little more. .

Had the same issue recently and really heard it scream on I-80 into the wind. I'll be visiting the local glass guy today. I knew this forum would eventually be good for sumptin'. :thumbsup:
