Is Oil filter housing related to the turbo line
Dealer has informed me that my 09 Clubman S has an minor oil filter housing leak that should be fixed at some point in the future. I know this is a known issue. My question for those more tech savvy than me is this related to the same heat issue with the turbo line?
1. Should I repair both at once? 2. How much would the oil filter housing cost? 3. Is this something I can try to demand the dealer fix out of warranty? |
They are not related. My MA urged me to have my oil filter housing refurbished (as a precautionary measure) when I had my turbo oil line replaced. I had the work done for both. There's a substantial labor saving in re-doing the oil filter housing while the engine compartment was apart for the oil feed line fix. A "while we're at" repair. I tried to get both repairs done free or at reduced cost by Mini on a "goodwill" basis out of warranty, but had no luck.

I also have an 09 Clubman S, with 65,000 miles. I've had lots of repairs done... Everything except the oil filter housing and turbo oil feed line. I expect this will need to be done soon. I smell a faint burning oil smell after driving my car hard. I too would like to know what the cost is for the repairs and what kind of savings can be had by doing both together rather than separate.
FYI, in talking to my independent Mini shop, they did inform me that there is no cost savings to replace the turbo oil feed line while having the thermostat housing replaced. |
it's not a hard job, but will be time consuming. We usually do the oil filter housing gaskets at the same time as the turbo line since the labor is a 90% overlap.
Here is what you need SS turbo oil line kit http://www.waymotorworks.com/images/...LineKit1sm.jpg http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-sta...-line-kit.html filter to block gaskets http://www.waymotorworks.com/images/...er%20Seals.jpg http://www.waymotorworks.com/oil-fil...9-r60-r61.html filter to cooler seals http://www.waymotorworks.com/images/...er%20seals.jpg http://www.waymotorworks.com/oil-coo...9-r60-r61.html |
It's even better....they said they would replace line to turbo at same time. Now they are telling me that I have the "death rattle". Of course since I've already replaced the tensionor with the previous campaign it doesn't qualify but they are looking into a discounted repair.
