Leather Repair
 

My R50 has a hole about the size of a quarter in the leather on the left side of the passenger seat backrest. We bought it this way and told myself I would eventually get around to it. Well, I have done all the small projects I wanted to do, so now I am wanting to get this done. Is there a decent DIY solution for leather repairs? I was considering the possibility of getting the entire cover or seat replaced, but that could run over $300. It's the two ton black/beige (the part with the hole is black), so even sourcing it was a bit of an issue.

Any tips are appreciated. :)

Anybody? My 05 MCSC driver seat is looking a bit beat...

There are several things you can do. There is a kit that you can match the color and pattern and mix it up and iron on. Also you can hire a mobile repair guy to do this. Which I would reccomend. Next you could take your seat out and have an upolstry guy fix it. Last if you feel bold you can buy the "skin" from the "stealership" and take the old one of and put the new one on. There are alot of youtube and internet help to do this. Good luck.

I bought my daily-driver M Coupe with an annoying hole in the same (napa) leather that MINIs have. It's an oddball color which I've been struggling to fix. I hadn't thought of a mobile repair guy. I'll look into it. Thanks for the tip.

I tried with one of those ironing kits, even practiced on some scraps first. Had OK results with tears and cuts on the work bench but holes ... forgetaboutit

then when I tried to fix a tear ON the seat, the heat melted the foam under the repair area so I had sealed the tear but now had a divot.

I ended up at an auto uph' shop to get it done right . . .

My local upholstery shop who just did a new headliner for 270 told me that it would be about 250 to fix a small slit I had in the leatherette on the drivers seat. His recommendation was leave it alone and live with it until it became worse (it's pretty small now).

I have a couple spots on the driver seat that are worn nearly through, but no cuts or holes. Is an iron on repair the best, and where do I find one?
