Passenger Window Doesn't Roll Down Completely
My passenger side window does roll up and down, but slowly. The biggest problem is that a bit of the window stays above the door when it is rolled down completely, like a shark fin. My guess is that one of the plastic pins that connect the window to the "window regulator" has come off, but my research suggests that I need to get the "window regulator" itself replaced.
Anyone have any insight? Also, is this a job that I could do myself, given that the most complicated procedure I've accomplished with my mini was to install the OEM roof rack? |
Looks like the regulator / window glass mounting point is off track a bit or one of the cables are broken. You can see how it mounts in the diagram and that there is a little plastic mount with a sprocket that holds it in place. You will have to take the door panel off on the inside to expose the glass and regulator, dip the window down a bit and reach up and unscrew the little sprockets and carefully slide off the window glass, then holding it still with the door open lift the glass out. You don't want to drop it. Set the glass somewhere safe and n a soft large towel.
Then unbolt the regulator from the door and unplug the motor. Once the regulator is out you will have to transfer the motor from the old one to the new one and replace in reverse. You might have to reset the up and down points of the window program once all is installed back in. From another thread: "In the R56 and R55 is different. You have to hold down the affected power window toggle switch for at least 15 seconds and then fiddle the switch in a rapid 5-7 second sequence up and down. Then bring the window all the way up with the door closed.
