Driver's door open warning light won't go off (07 R56)
I got up this morning to go to work and the car says the door is open. I opened and closed it a few times and no luck. the windo is automatically cracked as if i were opening the door and clicks up and down by itself. Where is the switch or senor that controls this as I know the door is closing correctly but its almost like it is short circuiting. I haven't pulled of the door card yet to look behind it as I dont want to get more involved than I have to.

I believe its in the door lock itself. The lock is a complete unit. Might want to check the lock where it catches the striker hook in the door jam. Check to see if something on the lock side is damaged. Also check the harness where its connected to the lock, might be loose.

i took the door card off to look inside. ill try poking around at the lock. i do notice that the striker hook is worn on the top. i think it is somthing elecrical since it catches and stays shut but the yellow mini indicator shows the drivers door adjar. when i play with the door i can get it to go off for short periods of time.

Did you ever figure what the problem / solution was or were you just smart and traded the pice of planned obsolescence junk in for something with some reliability built into it? |
My solution was to spray WD-40 into the lock assembly, open and shut the door frequently. The light problem went away until this day and may have just been a moisture problem, however the latch sometimes sticks and I repeat a combination of general purpose oil and WD-40.
Also, I still have the car running and driving with 140K+ on the clock. Definitely has had "fun" engine and electrical issues over its life. but no transmission, brakes, or suspension problems to report. I would consider getting another mini for the corrosion protection, just want to see what they do between gas and electric the next few years. |
Thanks for the response! I may ( read most certainly am ) be guilty of venting frustration on boards from time to time. Fact of the matter is I love love love driving my 07 mcs. I can be overly critical of anything and everything. It seems moisture got the better of mine for a short time as well. Considering I live at 8500' elevation in Colorado and it's our most wet month of the year, I should have figured it may have had something to do with the problem. I miss my heated garage.
FYI, I'm currently building a hot rod mini, 2010 mcs, which is B R G as well. Lowered, Sways, LTW wheels, CP pistons, K1 rods etc, etc. I am in the home stretch for the build. It should be a mini on an entirely different level as a stock MCS. |
