2009 MCS clutch replacement

I have a 2009 MCS coming. I placed the order Sunday. I'm getting the manual transmission.

Can anyone tell me what a clutch replacement will cost on average?
What about longevity of the clutch. I understand everyone drive's a stick differently but I also can drive a stick very well and have good habits not bad clutch habits. (I currenlty drive an 05 GTO with a 6 speed. Same clutch since new with 76k miles.)

Of course I didn't look into any issues like this I just test drove it and had to have it.

I appreciate any light you folks can shed on this.

Regards,

Pat

As far as I can tell, the Mini is no different than any other manual shift car. Abuse the clutch and it'll wear out quickly; treat it right and it lasts for thousands of miles.

Average cost of replacement seems to be about a thousand or so.

Any Mini dealer will give you a detailed quote down to the last cent. They will also tell you how many clutches they had to replace and at what mileage. Those are not state secrets.

I have a 1977 Datsun 280Z, in addition to my Clubman, that I used to AutoX back in the early 80's. That car currently has 230,000 miles on the original clutch. If driven correctly, a clutch will last a very, very long time.

I've smelled a lot of burning Mini clutches out on rallys and at MTTS, I think people forget how little pedal pressure is needed to start the clutch slipping.

I agree, just barely resting you toe on the clutch peddle will do er in.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I appreciate it. That's good news.

From what I was told is that MINI USA will cover the clutch replacement while under warranty which is very rare since the clutch disc is a wearable item just like brake pads which also happens to be covered under warranty too if found to be defective. But I also think it is determined by your Mini Service Dept.

My 2009 warranty specifically says that brakes and clutch are not covered by the warranty unless they are defective. In other words, if they wear out due to normal wear and tear (or abuse, by riding clutch or brakes), then they are not covered.

I had two defective LuK clutches and dual mass flywheels on my long-gone 2005 MCS. Both were replaced under warranty NQA, with the dealer charging back BMW about $2,700 each Both components have to be replaced at the same time.

That's why I swore them off for my new R56, with no regrets--love the bulletproof dependable Aisin automatic. too many plastic parts (i.e. the throwout bearing) on the LuK clutches, where there should be none. Good luck!

Not quite, K, when U take into account the DMF replacement, DMF's cannot be turned, so new clutch = new DMF. See above post.

I finally got an answer from the local MINI dealer to replace the clutch. $1400.00.

clutch is 1200-1500 and if you need a new fly wheel another 1200 or so.
also clutch is not covered under warranty unless defective but it does fall under the service maintenance contract, so if it wears out within the 36months/36000 miles it should be covered.

My dealer will not install a new clutch w/o installing a new dual-mass flywheel, that's their policy, so yeah $1500 for the clutch and $1200 for the dmf is about spot-on. Expensive buggers eh?

MINI OEM Clutch = Pure crap.

After 100K miles I am going with a Clutchmasters setup FX200 I believe.

I am ready for clutch set #3 and only 51K miles.

First @ 25K miles defective under warranty. Second clutch doing the same @51K miles. Booked at dealer's early next week to have Clutch #3 and Flywheel #2 fitted and 100% covered under MINi Extended service contract.

These clutches can not stand stop and go city driving. Been driving stick for 23 years. Never had a car requiring 3 clutches with less than 100K miles.

Next MINI will be auto!

Wow! That really sucks! I'm about to get my clutch fixed under warranty too at @40K. Not reassuring, but at least its covered under warranty.

Is the Clubby stick or auto? If its stick, keep us posted on the clutch as the miles rack up.

My 05 GTO has 78000 miles on it now and I drive it hard. I don't ride the clutch but I do take off in a spirited manner quite frequently. I've only taken it to the drag strip twice and had it on a road course 1 time. I have replaced the brakes twice but the clutch is still original and still works fine. I doubt that I will drive the MINI like I do the Goat. 400 hp and 172 hp just don't compare. I'm hoping the clutch will last a good long time.

The Clubman S is automatic I am BEYOND HAPPY with this rock solid transmission.

My other MINI is a 2005 R53 S hardtop. The 6-speed Getrag is ROCK SOLID, but unfortunately it is saddled with a THIRD WORLD LuK dual mass flywheel and clutch kit. The car is going back to the dealer next week for clutch #3

If it weren't for the MINI Extended service, I would have already ordered a new Clutchmasters clutch kit and flywheel.

"third world" that's a GREAT and MOST APPROPO descriptor hahaha Like U Clubman S I am INSANELY happy with my automatic.

Now if Aisin teams up with BMW to put their (under development) DSG-style 7-speed manumatic on the next gen JCW I'll be the first in line to order

Just had to replace the clutch in my '09 after 6 months and 4,800 miles. It's not covered by warranty, but it was done at no cost to me.

New Car's clutch ok so far

I only have about 960 miles on my car so far and the clutch is working perfectly. I don't know what kind it has in it. I'm assuming the same as the 08's.

It feels just fine. One thing I did notice is that it takes very little peddle pressure the push the clutch in. Especially compared to my GTO. Not that it's a bad thing just different. I also really like how easy the shifter works. It's not the tighest thing in the world but all the slots work just fine. Up and down. It's one of the easiest cars to drive. I would classify it as easy and smooth. My GTO has been sitting in the garage since I got "Fulburt". It's been two weeks and the Goat has not moved.

Anyway, I hope the clutch holds up. I don't beat it that's for certain. I am impressed with the power this little pocket rocket has. I have to learn to really watch the speedo. It can get away from you quickly. I'll be glad when the break in miles are complete so I can use the cruise.

Hell, others have said you ought to opt for a Clutchmaster's setup and have a tuning shop do it for less. Better parts and less cash!

If I wouldve kept my R53 I prob wouldve done this. Good idea for anyone that plans to compete/race their MINI. LuK's arent exactly h/d.
