2009 MCS clutch replacement
I have a 2009 MCS coming. I placed the order Sunday. I'm getting the manual transmission.
Can anyone tell me what a clutch replacement will cost on average?
What about longevity of the clutch. I understand everyone drive's a stick differently but I also can drive a stick very well and have good habits not bad clutch habits. (I currenlty drive an 05 GTO with a 6 speed. Same clutch since new with 76k miles.)
Of course I didn't look into any issues like this I just test drove it and had to have it.
I appreciate any light you folks can shed on this.
Regards,
Pat

From what I was told is that MINI USA will cover the clutch replacement while under warranty which is very rare since the clutch disc is a wearable item just like brake pads which also happens to be covered under warranty too if found to be defective. But I also think it is determined by your Mini Service Dept.

I had two defective LuK clutches and dual mass flywheels on my long-gone 2005 MCS. Both were replaced under warranty NQA, with the dealer charging back BMW about $2,700 each Both components have to be replaced at the same time.
That's why I swore them off for my new R56, with no regrets--love the bulletproof dependable Aisin automatic. too many plastic parts (i.e. the throwout bearing) on the LuK clutches, where there should be none. Good luck!

My dealer will not install a new clutch w/o installing a new dual-mass flywheel, that's their policy, so yeah $1500 for the clutch and $1200 for the dmf is about spot-on. Expensive buggers eh?

MINI OEM Clutch = Pure crap.
After 100K miles I am going with a Clutchmasters setup FX200 I believe.
I am ready for clutch set #3 and only 51K miles.
First @ 25K miles defective under warranty. Second clutch doing the same @51K miles. Booked at dealer's early next week to have Clutch #3 and Flywheel #2 fitted and 100% covered under MINi Extended service contract.
These clutches can not stand stop and go city driving. Been driving stick for 23 years. Never had a car requiring 3 clutches with less than 100K miles.
Next MINI will be auto!

Is the Clubby stick or auto? If its stick, keep us posted on the clutch as the miles rack up.

My 05 GTO has 78000 miles on it now and I drive it hard. I don't ride the clutch but I do take off in a spirited manner quite frequently. I've only taken it to the drag strip twice and had it on a road course 1 time. I have replaced the brakes twice but the clutch is still original and still works fine. I doubt that I will drive the MINI like I do the Goat. 400 hp and 172 hp just don't compare. I'm hoping the clutch will last a good long time.

The Clubman S is automatic I am BEYOND HAPPY with this rock solid transmission.
My other MINI is a 2005 R53 S hardtop. The 6-speed Getrag is ROCK SOLID, but unfortunately it is saddled with a THIRD WORLD LuK dual mass flywheel and clutch kit. The car is going back to the dealer next week for clutch #3
If it weren't for the MINI Extended service, I would have already ordered a new Clutchmasters clutch kit and flywheel.

New Car's clutch ok so far
I only have about 960 miles on my car so far and the clutch is working perfectly. I don't know what kind it has in it. I'm assuming the same as the 08's.
It feels just fine. One thing I did notice is that it takes very little peddle pressure the push the clutch in. Especially compared to my GTO. Not that it's a bad thing just different. I also really like how easy the shifter works. It's not the tighest thing in the world but all the slots work just fine. Up and down. It's one of the easiest cars to drive. I would classify it as easy and smooth. My GTO has been sitting in the garage since I got "Fulburt". It's been two weeks and the Goat has not moved.
Anyway, I hope the clutch holds up. I don't beat it that's for certain. I am impressed with the power this little pocket rocket has. I have to learn to really watch the speedo. It can get away from you quickly. I'll be glad when the break in miles are complete so I can use the cruise.
