Another "My Car Won't Start" Thread...
Quick run-down, I reset the "service engine" light last night (fresh oil change.) While I was playing, I tried to figure out how to set the next interval to 15k instead of the 6k it's currently set at. -Got nowhere but, decided to make sure I didn't mess anything up so I started the car; fired right up. /Good night.
Woke up and put the key in the ignition, turned key and flick, click, flash, bla bla bla... Thought to myself "Oh Goodie, dead battery!" Opened the hood to find CRAZY fresh blue corrosion all over the terminals (like the battery blew-up!) So, I took it out and went to the store and bought a new 650 cranking amps battery. Installed the battery and same exact symptoms -Won't turn over!!! Thought "well it surely has to be the starter then..." So, I took the starter out (oh what fun) and took it to a shop that rebuilds starters (among other things.) They tested it and just to my luck... IT WORKS PERFECTLY EVERYTIME!!! Errrrr... So I re-install it! Try to start the car and still no luck. Issues: - Clicking Under Dash, Flashing/ Flickering Interior Lights, Starter engaging (popping out rappidly but not turning the engine over.) - When rolling the windows down, sometimes the interior lights click and flicker What I've done/ tried: - New Battery (650 Cranking Amps) - Tested Starter (Works perfectly every time) - Successfully push started the car - Unsuccessfully jump-started the car (with new battery) - Tried both key's and had the exact same results The only thing I can think to try is new terminals??? The negative terminal was disgusting but I cleaned it up 1/2 way decent... Any help is greatly appreciated! -Chris |
So... After a good night sleep, I started back at it again. -This time my buddy (who happens to be an electrical genius) came over to help...
Moral of the story: If your terminal is full of corrosion, your best bet is to not only wire brush it as best as possible but also to sand the inside contact with a rough sandpaper! -Rookie Mistake!!! |
