Thanks for posting! My car is CA registered. I checked my warranty book and it is indeed covered. My car was manufactured in late 2012 as a 2013 model. I'm going to contact Mini USA and ask them why i was charged by Irvine Mini to replace the thermostat.
I'll post the results. Let's hope for a reimbursement!

I asked why some vehicles had received a warranty replacement, regardless of year. He said it was a case by case basis and had no further information.
Disappointed with Mini's (lack of) customer service!

On my 2011 CM S, I just ordered the thermostat housing, new plug adapter, and the upper main hose (from Pelican and saved $300 compared to dealership).
Will be doing the job myself, I will also write up a short & simple HOWTO on how to replace the whole thing like I did when I replaced my starter recently.

Right here: 11537534521 OEM part number for all the aftermarkets, the newest version from MINI is 11538699290, it just happened. Same part, MINI just updated the part # as I believe the supplier for MINI changed on that part. I could not see any differences when I looked at them when the new part number came in.

Hi all, just wanted to add to the roll call. Have my thermalstat housing replaced on my 2009 justa clubman, for the second time. First time with the dealer couple years back (but out of warranty of course). Second time by myself on the weekend that just past. Getting the hoses and the housing off is not too bad. But the water pipe is impossible to get to.
I read some post and videos online, most of them however are for cooper S. The intake manifold looks different and seems smaller than what a regular clubman has, which covers a sizable area at the back of the engine. I tried to bear hug the engine from the top hoping to feel the mysterious wiring clip that I have to unclip but no luck.
Eventually left the water pipe there. The thermalstat high engine code is cleared and stayed off. Haven't seen any leak yet. So fingers crossed.
Will appreciate if anyone has any information on how to take off the intake manifold. I am thinking eventually I might have to crack it open and replace the water pipe.
Thanks in advance.

Having it done now
2011 Clubman, having it done at local shop, 142,000 miles. Ran hot last weekend. Have been watching the coolant since. Sometimes it was fine, sometimes it was low. Took it to a local shop yesterday. Hole in the housing. They got the replacement part but it was the one for the updated housing. Flying in an original one in the morning. Charging 3.2 hours labor. $675.00 for the total job. Ugh! Glad I sold a house last week. Time to sell another. Was planning to buy another car today but can't get there!!!

Did it yesterday on 2013 Countryman S with 46k miles. Seemed to be fine, but today I have a check engine light. I expect it's just a connection that I failed to press all the way in, or something similar. I'll find out more when the wife gets home from work with it.

Anyone with a thermostat issue, be sure to check the site to see if you are eligible for a reimbursement: www.mini-rp.com
They fully reimbursed me back in April.

Good call! I need to do that. Mine's a '13 but has a mfg date of 1/2013 and had the old style harness/elbow temp sensor.

Mine bit it hard
Unbeknownst to me, while driving down a desolate highway in northern VT yesterday, my thermostat housing ruptured and spewed all its coolant. I never got any sort of warning light until it was too late...not only did the housing crack, it melted. Now there is bits of melted plastic and thick sludge throughout the water pump and who knows where else. Having it towed to the dealership tomorrow, but not holding my breath an ever getting her back on the road.

However, a week or so ago, I drove the car maybe 3 miles, returned home an hour later. Upon pulling into my driveway I noticed a small fluid leakage spot ahead on the concrete (where I normally park). I stopped the car, got out and checked. It didn’t really smell much, just seemed to be water? I took a picture of the fluid leakage spot just in case. I sent (texted) an image to the Mini Service Advisor, never got a response.
Ever since then I’ve noticed a new fresh fluid leak, directly dead-center under the engine bay, where-ever I drove the car. A fluid leak here, and a fluid leak there. Maybe 2 or 3 ounces each occurrence, on 4 or 5 different occasions. However I never got any problem indicator lights? Or engine light? Etc.,...
So, after taking car to Mini dealer the thermostat has failed, and is the source of the leak. I am being charged $815.00 for repair.

Adding To the roll call:
I had had the temp sensor, housing, water pipe and water pump (elective as it wasn’t leaking yet) replaced last month.
2013 MINI Countryman S all4 6MT with 135K kms (85K miles)
i have owned the car for two years and have a love/hate relationship with it. I want to say it will be my last MINI/BMW product but it is getting harder and harder to find a manual transmission vehicle and a Mazda3/Civic just doesn’t suit me.

The thing I really hate is they (Mini/BMW) make use of so many composite (plastic) components, throughout the car- mechanically and cosmetically. I don't know how they get away with this? I've replaced a number of external body cosmetic parts, as they were literally cracking and falling apart, just looked like crap. It pisses me off.
Maybe that's not a bad idea having the water pump and piping replaced before they break as well- potentially causing complete engine failure

yeah, I know what you mean about love/hate relationship. I don't know what to do about this car at this point in time (being it still has low miles- 46,000). I love driving it. gets really good mileage (great for driving in Los Angeles). And has been mostly reliable- well, up until just recently.

Reaearch on on this board tells me squeal is caused by a ripped/faulty PCV diaphragm in the valve cover. I have ordered a new diaphragm from a Moscow based company.
I completely agree with this being a plastic car. I call it a Lego car. I also own a 48 year old Porsche 911 on which everything is made of metal including the bumpers. I was tempted to get a newer 911 as a daily driver but my wife didn’t approve— and she is right. I love the extra space and practicality of the MINI plus in the city it is much more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

Posting this again as I replied to the wrong post.
Go to www.mini-rp.com to see if you qualify for a reimbursement or a replacement. I had my T-housing replaced in 2016 and MINI fully reimbursed me last year.
