CEL on my wife's cooper
CEL on my wife's cooper
Okay, so I'm new to this forum but wanted to post to see if I can get some help. My wife has a 10' cooper s with about 7,200 miles on it. Let me put out there that this car has already had the water pump changed because it failed at about 6,000 miles.
anyway, she gets the CEL light today, I put a scanner that my brother had it is had PO300,PO301, PO300p, PO304p, CO700p, and 2 other codes but didn't come out on the scanner. I know that the 300's are misfires but what the heck is the 700. I tried searching and it gives me some trans codes. I'm bring it to the dealer because it's under warranty but wanted to get more familiar with the car. Any ideas from anyone would be great. Thanks.
Also, do these cars normally have a ticking noise during warm ups? This one does and had it right before the water pump failed.....and now is doing it again and now the CEL is on.......smh

Sounds like you used just a generic OBDII scanner and not something dedicated to MINI's software and modules.
Grab hold of a Bavarian Technic unit, or head to the dealer as it's a warranty fix anyway.
Yes, the direct injection engine do tick normally, but do keep an eye on oil level.

Is it the lifters ticking until they oil up? Or, is it a loud clacking sound like rocks bouncing around? Don't know about the later models, but prior models back to 07 had timing chain issues. Had to replace mine. The noise of that vs the lifters is very different. Mini's tend to be a little ticky on start up.
One response mentioned be sure to check oil. That is because if it gets too low it can impact your timing chain, guide, etc. and cause failure. I check mine once a week as well as coolant level.
Also, change oil at 7-7.5K and not 15K.
If you've never heard the timing chain issue google 'sound of timing chain issue on mini coopers', should pull up numerous videos with examples.
Good luck with everything.

Who cares? It's 2010 and under warranty. Take it to the dealer, get a loaner and have them fix it. When you get it back have a talk with the SA and find out what the problems were.
Ohh that's why they tick?.... Thanks.
Im trying to get an understanding of why they do that. Normally SA ******** you because they don't know and that's why I asked here in the forum since there are probably people who have past experiences with these cars.

It could simply be the injectors that you are hearing and not lifters. If you have a full oil compliment it's probably the injectors you are hearing.
Take it to the dealer for sure. You never know they may put a complete top end on the car.
