Mini Won't Turn over, battery is charged
 

I tried starting my mini and it won't even turn over, no noise what so ever. The battery is not dead....Any ideas.

Can you jump start it?

tap two things (like dancing with stars)
the battery cables (neg & pos) also tap the starter ...could be stuck.
are cables tight?
anyone work on the car before?

What makes you think that the battery is not dead enough to not crank the car? MINIs use a lot of juice on start and it is not uncommon for things like the radio and lights to work and it still not crank.

My bet is on the battery but you can also check the grounding cable under the bonnet or it could be the starter as well.

Car won't start
 

Longshot here, but do you have manual trans? If so, it could be related to the "clutch pedal safety switch" or whatever the proper term is. If that is not working properly your car will act dead.

HRM: yes I jump started it.

daflake: I think it's not dead because I tried to jump it with cables and it still did not turn over.

s2k7: I'll try tapping. I'm not sure where the starter is. believe it or not I've done quit a bit of work myself, just not sure where the starter is located.

ronburleson: it is manual. Do you know where the clutch pedal safety switch is?

How long did you leave the cables on? As I said, the MINI is an electronics hog and can take up to five min of charging on a jump to even crank. This is normal.... It isn't like a regular car that you connect directly to the battery and jump.

You are guessing about the battery and I am willing to bet that is exactly what it is.

THe clutch sensor is on or near the peddle, you can move it to the floor and let you foot slip off so it bangs on the way up..

You successfully jump started or not, it is significant

how old is the battery? Any GEN1 on the original battery is on borrowed time. And a GEN1 with a changed battery could be due for another. (big dif' 'tween a 2002 hard top, and a 2006 hard top time wize) IMO a battery that is 5 years old is due to be replaced and that assumes it was a damn good battery. You can decide to wait until they die, but there ARE consequences . . .

Issue has cropped up again.

Capt bj, I could not jump start it, but I recently bought a new battery (today) and I still have the same problem.

I've tried switching out the relays I believe near the clutch pedal, at the kick plate and under the hood. No sucess.

i replaced the starter about 1.5 yrs ago.
