Sunroof doesn't retract unless button held

Just got a new MCS 2010 (love it!) but unlike my 2004 I have to hold the sunroof button open or shut to move the sunroof, I can't just push it all the way in and get it to move by itself to fully opened/closed position. I'm guessing it might be a setting in my dash - anyone know how to change that?

Thanks!!

That's how it works on the new ones.
I've heard on this forum that there is an aftermarket mod that allows one touch sunroof opening. I can't find the thread, I'm sure someone will chime in with more details.

Ah weird, the manual mentions pressing harder to automatically open/close it and I can feel that the button has the two-stage click for both opening and closing. I was hoping it was just disabled in software!

I saw an item over at outmotoring.com for a one touch sunroof circuit. Check over there.

Outmotoring sells the aftermarket module if you want to give it a try. I think everyone who has done it has reported success.

"Does Not Work on any MINI model after 2009!" Oh well, guess I'm stuck with pressing and holding on the '13. :( Miss my '05 R53 for this reason too.

That should be a code-able item with the proper software. Either a diy thing or pay someone to do it. There are several threads on coding for second gen cars.

Icarly app has the ability to turn on one touch for the sunroof. A friend turned it on on his mcs but had to shut it off during the summer because his sunroof gets sticky in the sun and he was worried about burning up the motor if the roof didn’t open

Had to have that feature coded on my '07 MCS. Don't have the problem on my '15 because I decided not to have a big hole in the roof.

How hard is it really to hold the sunroof switch for a few seconds? It is one if those first world problems.

Funny to see how folks are different. I have a 13 and somehow my sunroof did have the one touch, but I hated it because I mainly like to have it cracked or titled and didn't like it going full open all the time.
But my mechanic went in and changed a code from his module and changed it from the one touch to open to hold to open. However soon after he did it, he was like if you continue to open and close the roof, that i'll be seeing him soon again to have new sunroof rail tracks put in. He told me the mini sunroof is the most flawed mechanism he's ever seen, and one the most problematic things needing repair. So time your use on when you really need to have it open, because it seems like your days will be numbered till you'll need a fix.

The problem isn’t exactly the sunroof it’s how tight of a seal they make. When the temps rise the sunroof expands and causes strain on the motors and causes it to jump the track. At 160,000 my sunroof still opens just fine. Just need to give it s hump when the temps are hot.

This is a good tidbit of information for those of us who do use our sunroofs. This could save a lot of hassle later on down the road. Thanks!

From my understanding its a pretty common issue with BMWs. I wouldn't be surprised if thats the reason they didn't include the one touch sunroof on the 2nd gen cars like on the R53s. I know with my MCS any temps over 85 and sunny and sometimes i have to give my sunroof a little help to start moving.
