Thanks for posting this. Too bad they're only looking at '04's and '05's as the '03 are known to have the same issue and I've got an '03 with a loud (but still working for now) pump.

About damn time.

Wow, what timing! A week ago I sent complaints about my story of almost being killed because of this very well known problem on my 04 S. I sent formal complaints to MINI, and many other agencies. I hope to push this all the way to the top and help owners who are out of warranty. Does Toyota ring a bell for anyone??? Mini has some bad press on the way if they don't scoop up the issue and handle it.

Could a failing/underpowered power steering pump cause problems to the steering rod/rack? I smell a big power out from BMW/MINI

I hope they take care of the problem quickly if the investigations shows there is a need. I hope minis reputation doesn't suffer the blow that toyota's did because they denied their problems so long. Also hoping this problem doesn't extend on into the 2006 model which we have! :eek2:

Thanks for the post. I will be calling.

I had my power steering go out just a week or so ago. I'd parked it in a garage and when I went to leave, no ps. I drove for awhile (had to) and then stopped at a service area on the NJ Turnpike. When I came back out and started it up, it was fine again. No issues since, but then all this in the news. I was going to have my mechanic look at it when I took it in to get the brakes done soon. Guess I'll call the number posted above and report it.

bump let's get everyone with an issue to file a complain takes 5 minutes by phone. Dealer sticks it to you $140.00 just to diagnose it a 5 year old can do it for free.

Now Consumer reports with over 900 complaints

Replacing faulty power steering fan today.... hopefully got it in time so as not to damage the power steering pump.
|
I have a new power steering pump being delivered today. It would be really nice if something was decided before I install the new part.
If not, here's to hoping that people who have repaired this out of pocket, multiple times for some, can get reinbursed. |

I had to replace the PS fan at 30K miles. Just called and filed the complaint over the phone. We'll see if anything comes of it.
|
I had the same issue last year. The p/s pump and fan were all replaced under warranty. Now, the fan is starting to go out again. I wish this would cover up thru 2006 MCS as well. I'll make my call and hope for the best!

The way it works usually, is BMW would have to refund you the money for the pump if you did not do it at a dealer and only up to the cost of the dealer price. Labor is where it get's trickey as they will nickle and dime you to death on that but they should pay the rate and hours that there book says. You must have a receipt for work done. I also sent out my pump toady to be rebuilt by BBA remanufacturing with a lifetime warranty.
Guess I will make sure I keep up with all my receipts. |
Great news! Thanks for sharing - hopefully they will move fast.

Time to act
The more complaints the better chance. This is your one chance to be compensated now or in the future we must keep this thread going and get the word out. Would be great if we had a count as to how many owners actually call.

Getting pump back from a BBA rebuild total $237.00 with a lifetime warranty. W ill let you know how it works out. Hope the recall goes through
