Oxygen O2 Sensor prob. that won't go away.
'03 r50, just shy of 130k now...
I've been screwing around with this O2 sensor for like 10 months now and I'm about to lose my mind. Bought "Replacement Brand" O2 sensors through autopartswarehouse.com because, come to find out, they're manufactured by Bosch. Of course I've misplaced the wiring diagram that came in the box with it... connected white to white x2, grey to grey and black to black... both of the whites connect to power supplies on the ECU side of the clip, one @ higher voltage than the other, the other two connect to a ground (small black wire to ecu) and a signal return (small yellow wire to ecu).. BUT, when i put my multimeter on the sensor's wires, the whites make a circuit and the black and grey make another... this means that when I connect the wires to like colored wires in my harness i'm trying to put power into both sides of the white wire circuit.. someone help me out here... that higher voltage power supply should loop through the heater in the sensor and then back out to the ground, right? and then the lower voltage supply should loop through the sensor and back out through the signal return, right? and, does it matter which direction the current runs through the sensor? I switched the wires after I realized that (connected power return from higher voltage to ground, and power return from lower voltage to sensor return; basically white to grey and grey to white), and all of a sudden I'm noticing 4 mpg better on my way home yesterday (this was for the pre-cat sensor)... but SES light is still on.. I'm guessing I have to do that for my post-cat one, too? I'm going to pep-boys @ lunch today and will get them to put it on the computer thing and see what the codes are now, but last time I checked (after swapping the wires) it was only coming back "system too lean." would the post-cat sensor not functioning properly return a code like that? or would it give a sensor-specific result? am I playing with fire and about to burn up my ecu if I switch wires and connect them the wrong way? I'm driving from tampa fl to knoxville tenn in two weeks (9-3-2010, just before labor day).. I'll stop by anywhere in between if someone can help me with this, I'll bring beer.. I'm literally about to go nuts. |
yah. so.. COME TO FIND OUT... from the Bosch factory... the genius @ autopartswarehouse was wrong.. they don't make that brand. :-/ and I didn't make it to pepboys. I haven't left my desk yet today. This is seriously going to drive me nuts.
can't somebody help me out? I've got these cheeeeesebuurgers, maaaaan. |
