Safelite Glass and rain sensor
Has anyone run into issues with Safelites replacement glass with the rain sensor? I recently had my windscreen replaced and while I was driving the wipers decided to cycle one time, now when it rains and the wipers are in the sensor mode it does not work. Just trying to gather info before I call Safelite.
Thanks

I just had my windshield replaced by Safelite. They used OEM BMW/MINI glass. I could be wrong but on the 2nd gen MINIs the rain sensor is not in the windshield. It's in the rear view mirror assembly.
This is a picture of the windshield. The black plastic part covers the rain sensor.

The issue is that the connector (that square plastic piece that you can see in OneFish's shot) gets damaged in shipping, and then doesn't work. The racks on glass vans sometimes knock off the clips, which causes the sensors to fail, even though it looks like the connector is snapped in. Just be sure that those clips are not broken or bent.

MINIsurf,
I had the same issue with my windshielf replacement. I am going to call the MINI dealership tomorrow, but it does seem to make sense that it is something to do with the glass they use. It was working fine before--and the windshield doesn't look like OEM.
I will confirm tomorrow...if that's the case, then Safelite should pay to replace the windshield with OEM glass and fix the problem. I was frustrated because the Safelite manager couldn't tell me anything was wrong with their job--just that I needed to go to the dealership to check out the sensor system. Grrr....

I had the same issue with safelite. When I looked at the sensor it had a spider web look to it in the front. It didn't work at all and set off when hitting a bump. I took it back and they brought in another piece of their glass. It was the same way so they didn't even attempt it. The sensor is glued to the screen before it gets to you so taking it to BMW is pointless.
I asked them for Pilkington and they got it for me. It was perfect. To be honest, their glass is cheap and had a lot of warping in it. Pilkington does almost all of BMWs glass so it is basically the same thing. Just ask for it when you call them.
