Boot won't open - how do I fix it myself?
OK, I've read a few threads about boots that won't open. I know you can lift the rear seat and pull the release and it will open. But that is getting old. My car is out of warranty and I don't want to take it to the dealer - they charge an arm and a leg AND they're 80 miles away and I'd have to take time off work. So it's a double losing proposition monetarily.
So... has anyone repaired this somewhat common problem themselves? Have any instructions? Anyone have details or pics on how to get at the boot release mechanism and at least have a look? |
I haven't had to repair one, but I have the release mechanism available if you need a new/used one.

My problem was the trunk wouldn't close. I had to replace the latch assembly. The solenoid was bad.

Would also ck the wiring harness back there too. Member of our club had bad/frayed wiring found only after checking all other components.

There have been electrical issues there. Try the remedy in this thread:
Hatch goes "Boonk" all by itself! (FIXED!) Definitely a cheap/easy fix if it works. |

Man I love car clubs. The people are always willing to help and share. |
Well, I didn't go as all out as the Bonk thread poster did, but I did remove the boot trim and cleaned the corrosion and water leakage damage off the electronics of the boot latch. I sprayed the crap out of it with contact cleaner as well.
When I put the boot latch assembly back on the boot, I tightened it down nice and tight. Hopefully the stock foam rubber will make a good seal this time. I've been driving it for about 2 weeks and haven't had any more trouble with it. I am still leery of it failing again and washing my car makes me nervous. |
