Hi all!
I really need to know what to do? I got my 03 MC with CVT this May. Everything is just fine until one day.
I remember that was a nice summer holiday. I was driving my baby on the highway(55mhp), then I found out I need to slow down because of the traffic ahead. Slowly I came to a stop, and the engine stop!!!! All the light on the dashbroad light up. But, can start up immediately. At first, I think maybe it was because of the hot weather, but after 3 months it happen again on last week. Same thing, engine stop! Anyone got the same experience? :???:

CTV’s have had a fan motor problem – have you had your CTV checked for this. Usually you get a nose bleed when it goes bad because it drives the water pump area. Have you seen any leaking?

Its either your software needs to be updated, or a diode in your wiring harness needs to be replaced. Your engine itself is fine.

If you got the EML light it means that you probably have a defective throttle body control module that is having a lose cable contact problem. Also the dealer will need to replace your engine wiring harness and verify if you have the latest CVT software update (Version 33.2 and up).

I had the same problem happen to me when I first picked up my MINI in June. Took it in for servicing, and never had the same problem again.

If is scary, and I feel your pain, but I never got stuck anywhere, nor did I have a problem starting it right back up after the engine died. So, don't worry.

Go in for servicing, and have them fix you right up!

Does the MINI CVT have a clutch, or is it a torque converter?
I seem to recall that MINI's CVT has a clutch. I would say that the computer didn't handle the clutch quite right, and stalled the car. As other posters suggested, you probably need a software update. When your engine stopped, did it feel like driving a stick and not push the clutch in when the car slowed down?

thanks for all the informative replies, however a little voice in my head says this thread should be moved to Beneath the Bonnet

Of what? Beneath the Bonnet or Ryephile?
I'd rather keep both.
Can't we bargain?

Yes, as you can see from reading this entire thread that the CVT has some trouble. I talked to our MA and found that although this is an issue with a small number (est 1-5%) of CVTs it is not a tremendous problem.
First sign of anything strange- stalling, stumbling, no dash lights, can't start, etc go in to your dealership and have it checked out. The software for the ECU is constantly being updated and I hear that soon the version will be quite a bit better so the end is in sight hopefully. I do have friends that are CVT owners and trying to keep their sanity while the fixes are in the works- hang in there guys. We are pulling for you.
