Getrag vs Midland transmissions

So a week ago, the transmission in my 2002 Mini Cooper ate itself at 40k and I'm faced with a bit of a problem. Should I rebuild the Midland transmission that seems to be plagued with problems (at least from what I've found via the internet and other complaints) or should I look into purchasing a new (or used) Getrag Transmission that is reportedly more durable and glitch free?

I don't know a whole lot about engines, other that I like them to, you know, work. The car is being checked out today and tomorrow up here in VT, and based on what they'll find, I'll need to decide what to do.

What can people tell me about each engine?
