Driver's Side Window - Help

A while back, I met up with Lyle so he could install some black door handles on my R56. Everything worked out great. He was able to install them without removing the window system. However, about a month later, I started having an issue with the driver's side window. Seems fine when it rolls down, but when it rolls up, it makes a funny noise (grinding almost) and there is a streak that is left on the inside of the window, like where it is being pushed up.

I am hoping that someone will shed some light on how to fix this. Everything still works, but it is an annoying sound, and I am tired of staring at the streak on the inside of my window. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Also, in no way am I blaming Lyle for anything. He does great work and is a great person to deal with.

I've sent Luigi and Rocco out to take care of Lyle. Hope he doesn't owe you any money.

So, why did you mention Lyle? And who the heck is Lyle?

Driver Window

3/15/2009

Lyle didn't work on my 02 "S" w/ 91,000mi. However I have had the same problem with the smear and a crunching or straining sound for nearly a year. Finally in the up position, the window quit all together. I could hear the motor try but nothing would happen. I took the door apart and stuck a mirror up in the door and carefully inspected.

The center liner came our of the window cable and got extruded through the pulley system aka the window regulator. I removed the regulator assembly and found that the cable was frayed which caused the failure. This week I'm ordering a new window regulator on-line for $147.00 through a BMW parts site.

Next Saturday I should be ready to replace with new regulator, and reprogram the window computer settings. If you're in the central Florida area, I might be able to offer some assistance.

Dealer price for parts and labor....$350.-$450. Add another $200 if the motor is replaced at time of regulator.
