Gages and lights going berzerk

Ok here goes...So I have a 2004 mc with 80,000mi. I got a check engine light on about 2,000 miles ago. So I got a code reader and plugged it in and found a 2097 code...Thought to be a post cat o2 sensor out. Replaced the o2 sensor with a bosch from auto zone, then used the code reader to reset. I know, big mistake. My gas gage has been acting up intermittenly for about 500 miles too. So I drove the car about 4 miles then stopped at the cleaners (turned it off). Drove another 2 miles to the bank and went inside. When I came back out to start it up, the gages, lights, windows, radio, door locks...everything went berzerk. when i turned the key to start, everything went dark then off, and a clicking noise came from the obd plug. Any suggestions? Any help would be deeply appreciated. As usual I need this fixed ASAP! Feel free to call me too. I would even consider a "reward" for whoever can help me get it back running. I would disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. Then re-connect.

Tried the battery thing and didn't work. Had it towed to Mini Dallas and was told may be a bad battery? Waiting now though.

From: Depends on the day.......
Sounds like the battery to me too. Same thing happened to me last night in my wifes car. Car ran fine when we drove it and parked at the store. When we came back out...nothing...absolutely dead. Some dash lights would light up a little until you tried starting the car. Tried jump starting it and got it started but it would die as soon as you tried to turn on the lights. Had to get a new battery and put in. It is doing fine now.

It was the battery

Thought I'd let you guys know it was the battery. Appearantly when the cpu senses a drop in voltage, it refuses to power up in an effort to conserve power and the car won't start. This is why it couldn't be jumped also. It may have worked if we had tried charging it for a little while before trying to start it. It also gives a trouble code and a check engine light, but not much help if you're running errends at the bank when it happens though .
