Amber gear icon showing... sometimes
I can't get a hold of my SA I told him the shifter mechanism has to be replaced and I am hoping he will listen to me. This has been happening to me for the past three months off and on and all they do is tighten or replace the cables. I will not accept my car back until they replace the shifter, the dealership is 1 1/2 hours away from where I live and this is getting ridiculous.
Mine was built in March his completion date was actually March 30th.
I want my MINI fixed why don't they get back to me. I have called and sent numerous emails
I just sent my SA another email with a copy of this thread and I am hoping he will get back to me. I have emailed him at least three times day and I have called and left a message no response. This is so aggravating for me.
Got my baby back from the dealer on Friday. I'm happy to say that they resolved the amber gear light problem. According to the service invoice, it was quite a job. Glad it was under warranty. Here is the SA's report as written on my invoice:
Tech inspected and verified that the yellow gear indicator light is on. Connected to GT1 and interrogated fault memory. Tech found relevant fault code A0B6 - selector lever interlock signal or value above threshold, currently not present, stored in the CAS module. Tech adjusted shift cable as necessary and cleared fault memory. Road tested and re-checked fault memory. Fault reoccurred, again not currently present. Tech placed order for SOP shifter assembly. Tech removed airbox assembly to access shift cable. Removed exhaust system to access heat shield. removed heat shield to access shifter assembly. Tech replaced complete shifter assembly due to internal sensor issues. Re-installed heat shield. Re-installed exhaust system. Re-installed airbox. Connected to GT1 and cleared fault memory. Road tested and re-checked fault memory. No CAS faults at this time. No gear warnings present at this time.
The part # ordered and replaced was: 1 25-16-7-577-589 Gearshift Assy, Steptronic:251030
I could definitely tell the work had been done as the transmission was tight and needed to be broken in again. Car is perfect now. Hopefully this info will help others having this problem.

Thanks for posting this I emailed my SA with a copy of this but still have not heard from him. I will refuse my vehicle until they ultimately fix it.
I do have a question though would it make a difference in which key was given to the dealer? I gave them my husband's key but my key was the one that was used when the transmission warning light went on and I also made them aware of that also so if it does matter they can get my key.
I can't answer you about the difference in keys. One would think if it was a fault within the car itself that it would be registering w/in the cars computer - but I have no idea if that is accurate.
My SA has told me that he really doesn't do email. I'm not sure if that's the gospel truth or not...but these people can be extremely busy, I know because I've seen it. Perhaps, he's not returning your call because he just can't get to it and he does not have any info. - yet.
Granted, if you think you're going to pick up the car today, you'd need to know before you showed up to get it. It's hard to be patient sometimes, I know. Hang in there!

I know I won't be getting my vehicle back today I just don't want them to tighten up the shifter cables and tell me it is fixed because that is basically what they have done the other times. I just want them to fix it and correctly.
I think I have the same problem. On the tach I have a gear with an exclamation point in the middle of it. On my NAV screen the words "Before leavinmg the vejicle select the P position. Possible fault in ignition or transmission selector lever" are displayed. I never tried to move the gear selector to see if it would move with the engine off. I took it in and they replaced the shift sensor. It was fine for a day and then I got the same fault message. Taking it back tomorrow as the service person told me they forgot to clear the fault from the memory. I have a clubman
Mine was built in March as well. Shifter was replaced. Car is good.
I am hoping and praying that they will listen to what you said, I will find it hard to accept my car back if all they want to do is adjust the cables which they have done numerous times when is enough is enough. I miss my car but I want it fixed right.
I am going to contact my SA this morning my husband and I decided if they will not replace the shifter mechanism and just adjust the cables we will refuse picking up the vehicle. After three times you would think that they know something has to be replaced. If we have to we will contact Mini USA to get things done.
I would strongly suggest you to go the dealership's GM rather than the SA again. Also ask them to reimburse you for the car payment or lease payment for the time your car has been out of commission.
Check your state's lemon law provisions.

I got a phone call from the SA this morning.
How many times was your vehicle in for service regarding the yellow sun? Mine has been in three times now for this issue and am hoping they will order the part.
It really sounds like your dealer is giving you the runaround. Even if they weren't convinced it needed it during the second repair they should have replaced it on the third try. The shifter replacement does seem to be a major repair that maybe they don't want to spend tech hours on. You probably should contact the GM of the dealership to alert him to your problem and dissatisfaction. You paid good money for your car. Mini will definitely cover the shifter replacement under warranty so it is puzzling that your dealer won't just go ahead and do it. Several others here have had it done with no issues. Is there another dealer in your area that you could take it to. If your dealer doesn't want the money, maybe another dealer will gladly do it. My 2 cents.

My husband called my SA this morning and they will be ordering the shifter mechanism apparently my car is constantly showing the fault now so they know it is the shifter mechanism now. I am not sure yet how long to get part in they will be emailing us next week with that information. If it is just a short period of time they will just keep my car, but if not they will bring my car back and when the part comes in they will schedule service. The SA told my husband that quite a few cars have been affected by this so I wonder if MINI will do a recall.
Thanks, I hope so to. I know some of the dealers don't like these boards but if it wasn't for these boards I wouldn't have known what to do. I am just hoping the part doesn't take long to get in and that we can get all this settled.
Has anyone here driven more than 5K miles with the replacement shifter mechanism and still have no problems?
Sorry, but I shall remain skeptical on this apparent 'fix' until someone has put enough miles to truly confirm that the fix is truly holding up.
Driving 400-1000 miles after the repairs and no light, does not qualify as "victory".
Also can anyone one post ACTUAL part numbers of the old shifter mechanism versus the new one to see if the part numbers have changed?
