Steering Issues

How's this for you, I had to brake hard on the interstate (I-77) steering wheel jerked in my hand so hard I ruptured a tendon in my hand. I did not hit anything, no curb, pothole, other car, possum nada squat diddley.

I've felt a slight pull one way or another while braking but only because the road was uneven or I was like in a rut where the constant weight of other cars and buses has pushed down the road. Never a jerk that hard...

I know offroading your advised to keep the thumbs on the outside of the wheel but I never heard of anything short of an accident moving the steering that fast on the road. Are you sure nothing is loose in the linkage?

On second thought, did the ABS start pulsing the brakes on one side?

The only reason can be that the antilock brake unit kicked in and the steering wheel shuddered bigtime as the car came to a screeching halt.

I had a car cutoff the line of traffic I was in, he/she merged straight into the middle lane. I was travelling with the flow of traffic around 70mph, the car that cut over didn't match our speed, and just made a space for their car. I never came to a complete stop, but did have to brake suddenly and hard. The interstate was curved, and sloped at that point, I am sure the ABS kicked in.

Probably the ABS doing its' job. The curve and the slope of the road contributed to the jerkiness. Don't worry until it happens again.
