Door Locks won't lock with toggle or key!!

Both my door locks will not lock with the inside toggle or key. I checked the fuse and its fine. The weird thing is you can manually lock both doors and then use the keyless or inside toggle to unlock them. This is where i hit my dead end. I have been reading the bently manual but cant find anything. Can someone help me. i have a '02 copper non-s

Thanks

May be (maybe) a battery that's going bad. Electrical gremlins show up when it starts to lose its 'umph'.

Skip,
Thanks, I put the battery on the charger....no difference. I know that can be a possibility but i dont think that was the problem.

ANYONE HAVE A FIX FOR THIS???

-Thanks

My bentley manual is nowhere near me right now, but yours to see if it shows two separate door lock relays: one for lock, one for unlock. Some manufacturers use this method, but I've never really checked the Mini.

Is the door shut when you're trying this? Read the owner's manual about the central locking system. I know the toggle won't do anything but unlock while a door is open. Helps prevent you from locking your keys in the car. I don't think anything is wrong with the car.

I just had the passenger door lock actuator replaced for this reason and it works great now

about $350 installed per door however

The doors are shut. So thats not the problem I know about the doors being open and it not locking so u don't lock your keys in the car.

I dunno where to go but the dealer. Which I don't really want to do since its a long drive.

Does the same thing happen with the other key? Try locking and unlocking the mini with the key in the door lock and then try the remote. The manual says something about this if it malfunctions or radio interference. The battery might be low in the remote, not the car battery. Might need to take a long trip to recharge the remote battery.

If this stuff doesn't help a trip to the dealer may be necessary. It's definitely odd that you can unlock but not lock via the remote.

Oh, does the car automatically lock itself when you drive off?

lunakahuna87 Apr 8, 2008 11:07 AM

yes the car locks auto when I drive away. The key is used in the car all the time so I don't think its dead. I can hear the locks clicking in the car but there is no reaction with the locks. I have to manually crank the lock to lock the car when using the key in the door. Same with unlock.

This is out of the owner's manual:

Malfunction
Local radio waves can interfere with functions
of the remote control.
If this occurs, lock and unlock the vehicle
via a door lock.
In the event of a system malfunction,
please contact your MINI Dealer. You can
also obtain replacement keys there.
If it is no longer possible to lock the
vehicle with the remote control, then
the battery is discharged. Use the corresponding
key for a longer journey so that
its battery can be recharged, refer to
page 24.<

I'm out of ideas otherwise.

FIXED the locks!!!!!!

GOOD NEWS!!!!! I FIXED IT! What I did was disconnect the batteries Negative(-) terminal for about 30 min while i charged the battery with a battery charger. I reconnected it and the central locking system started working fine again. it works fine with both the toggle and key. Im really excited about this since its been wishy washy for about 3 months. Its back and running. Thanks again to skip to the idea of charging the battery, all i needed to do though is actually disconnect it. I think it "restart" the central locking system.

have you figured out what the cause was or how to fix it? I am having the same issue and this just suddenly started.

I'm having a similar issue with my 2012 Countryman. I replaced a key fob purchased through bmw mini parts store, which was preprogrammed. The car starts with the new key, but the locks will not function. These are the issues:

Key fob will not unlock any of the car doors - which is the most important function
- if doors are unlocked and closed, pressing lock button only locks drivers door.
- rear hatch unlocks when pressing button on FOB
- press and hold the unlock button - all windows will open
- fuel door cover remains in lock mode - must use manual override
- lock toggle on dash does nothing (which I believe may be the entire problem??)

Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated. I may be shooting at straws but does the footwell module control the locking functions? Thanks in advance for your input
