STF (Street Touring FWD) Tire choice
#26
I have thought about that too. My gut feeling is that a 7" rim is as narrow as you would want to go for a 225 width "street tire". It may not allow you to get the most performance out of the tire otherwise. You would have to do some testing to be sure.

41 h: Have you ever ran on the Hankook Ventus RS-2? I am thinking that you're right about a 225 on a 6.5 rim, this is not a good situation. I will stay at a 205/50 15 for now till I can get wider rims. I like the Falken 615's but they don't like heat and thought the Hankook would do better with heat than the 615's. Your thoughts?

I am with you regarding a 6.5" width rim. I will stick with a 205/50/15 or 215/45/16 at the maximum. However, based on STS rules I think the ideal set up would be a 225/45/15 on a 15x7.5 rim.

I haven't personally used them. Based on everything I have heard about them they seem to be a very good ultra high performance tire, but not quite nationally competitive.

Well I found a new tire choice and it's simply amazing!! I went with the new 215/45 16" Kumho Ecsta XS and I'm glad I did. I did some quick tests to see how the tire is on grip and I was very surprised. With air temps at 47deg and the tires somewhat warmed (96deg) the tires were holding well at 1.15 lat G's with no squeel, I didn't have the nerve to go any further on a public road. This was .06 better than the Falken Azenis rt-615 in the best of conditions. I will post the results I get from my next autox on the 15th.
So far from what I'm feeling from this tire is incredible!!!
