I just posted this on the general R56 forums, but figured it might be fun to drop it in the St. L. Club thread as well, since our MINI proudly displays Club decals.

My wife and I drove the Dragon on our way to Asheville back in July, taking the north-to-south approach. It was our first time through, and the route was all I'd anticipated. Exciting stuff... and we got lucky enough to have the road pretty much to ourselves until we were nearly through, at which time a sport-ute pulled out of a turn-off and led us briefly before pulling off again to let us by.

Man, I've always wanted to drive The Dragon ever since I had my Miata. I'm going to have to make it out there someday. So you weren't there for an event? I'd love to drive it when they have traffic restricted to one way.

 

No, we just happened to be in the neighborhood... literally. We'd wanted to go to Asheville for a while, and it was during route planning for the trip that I happened to recall that the Dragon was out there somewhere. Checking the map revealed that it could be an easy alternative route to Asheville, so there you go.

In June my wife and I was also in the vicinity of the Dragon so we drove it. If you find yourself anywhere near the Tail of the Dragon you should give it a try. If you have a day to kill drive the entire loop around the park.
